Terms of Use
The rules for using this site. Short, because a portfolio site does not need four thousand words of it.

Agreeing to these terms
By using coderdude.com you agree to what follows. If you do not, that is a reasonable position - stop using the site. These terms are between you and Varner Ventures LLC, a limited liability company registered in South Carolina, United States, trading as CoderDude and referred to below as "I" or "me".
What this site is
A portfolio and a build log. It describes tools, games and systems I have built or am building, and it offers two ways to get in touch: a mailing list and a contact form. That is the whole product.
Statuses on the builds page - "in build", "built, not released", "prototyping" and so on - are honest descriptions of where something actually is, not commitments to ship. Something listed here may never be released.
Acceptable use
Please do not:
- Break the site, or try to. That includes denial of service, probing for vulnerabilities without asking me first, and attempting to reach anything you are not meant to reach.
- Submit anyone else's personal information through the forms, or an address that is not yours.
- Use the forms to send bulk, automated, or commercial solicitations.
- Scrape the site in a way that degrades it for anyone else. Reading it with a normal crawler at a sane rate is fine.
- Use the content to imply I endorse you, your product, or your company when I do not.
If you find a security problem, I would genuinely like to know: hello at coderdude dot com . Report it to me before you publish it and I will not be difficult about it.
Who owns what
The text, design, layout, graphics and branding on this site are mine, and are protected by copyright. You may read them, link to them, and quote a reasonable amount with attribution. You may not republish the site wholesale or pass its content off as your own.
The name CoderDude and the logo are mine and are not covered by any open-source licence on the software.
The software I publish
These terms do not govern the code. Each project I release is licensed under whatever licence ships in its own repository, and that licence wins over anything on this page. If a project says it is open source, it is - go and read its LICENSE file, which is the document that actually binds.
A project being free to download does not make it supported. Unless something says otherwise, released software comes with no support commitment and no guarantee that it keeps working, keeps being maintained, or stays available.
Buying, refunds and access
What you are buying
Everything sold here is a digital product: software you download, and courses you watch. Where a page describes something as yours forever, that is what it means - what you have downloaded keeps working, nothing expires, and nothing needs my server running to keep functioning.
Anything sold as a subscription says so before you pay. Subscriptions are cancellable at any time and stop at the end of the period you have already paid for.
Licences are personal. You may use what you buy on the machines you use, for your own work. You may not redistribute it, resell it, publish it, or deploy it across an organisation.
Refunds
Ask and you get one. If something you bought is not what you expected, email me and I will refund it. I would rather give you your money back than have you feel stuck with something you do not want.
There is no time limit written into that, and no form to fill in. I ask only that the request is genuine: refunds exist so nobody is trapped by a purchase, not as a way to keep the files for free. Repeated buy-and-refund on the same product may mean I decline, and if a payment is disputed with the card issuer rather than raised with me, access is withdrawn while it is resolved.
Refunds go back to the card that paid, and how long that takes is the bank's business rather than mine - usually a few days, occasionally longer.
Getting access
Buying creates your account automatically using the email address you paid with, and sends you a link to set a password. You do not need to register first. If that email does not arrive, check the spam folder and then email me - I can sort it by hand.
If a purchase is refunded or charged back, the access it granted ends. Anything you downloaded before that is a matter between you and your conscience; I am not going to reach into your machine, but the licence to use it has ended.
Prices
Prices can change. A change never applies retroactively: what you paid is what you paid, and a price rise afterwards does not create a bill.
Enquiries and consultations
Sending the contact form starts a conversation. It does not create a contract, and neither does my reply. Nothing on this site is an offer to perform work at a particular price or on a particular schedule; the budget ranges on the form exist to help both of us work out fit quickly, not to quote you.
Work only begins under a separate written agreement covering scope, price, timeline, ownership of what gets built, and confidentiality. Until that exists and is signed, either of us can walk away at any point for any reason.
Please do not send confidential information through the contact form. Describe the outcome you want in general terms. If we need to go deeper, we can put an NDA in place first, and I am happy to.
Any advice given during a free consultation is exactly that - advice, given quickly and without the depth of a paid engagement. Decisions you make on the back of it are yours.
The mailing list and the community
The weekly update is free. You can unsubscribe from any email in one click, and I would rather you did that than mark it as spam. I may stop sending it at any time.
The community is not open yet. Joining the waitlist costs nothing and commits you to nothing: it puts you in line and gets you told the pricing before it is public. Pricing, features and the opening date are not fixed and may change before launch. When the community does open, it will have its own terms covering membership, payment and conduct, and those will apply to it rather than this page.
Measurement
I record how people find this site and how they move around it, and I ask before doing so. The details are in the privacy policy, which is the document that governs it - this section exists so the terms do not quietly omit something the site does.
None of it is shared with anyone, none of it involves a third-party analytics service, and none of it records what you type.
Links to other sites
This site links out to places like GitHub and TikTok. I do not control them, I am not responsible for what is on them, and their terms and privacy policies apply once you land there. A link is not an endorsement of everything on the other end of it.
No warranty
The site and everything on it is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
I try to keep what is written here accurate, and the claims about what each project does are ones I have actually verified. I do not promise the site is error-free, always available, or up to date at every moment.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising out of your use of this site or of any software published through it.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid me in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars.
Nothing here limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those exclusions do not apply to you and the rest of this section still stands.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in South Carolina, and both of us consent to that.
If you are a consumer resident in the UK or the EEA, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your own country, or of the right to bring proceedings there.
Changes
I may update these terms. The "last updated" date at the top changes when I do, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new version. If a change is significant, I will say so on the mailing list.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest keeps working.
